A look behind the scenes at our supplier Smurfit Kappa!
Last week, some of our colleagues had the exciting opportunity to visit our long-standing packaging partner Smurfit Westrock Herzberger Wellpappe GmbH in Herzberg am Harz. After a warm welcome, we were given a tour of the production facility where we saw how our boxes are made – from cutting and printing the raw cardboard to punching and folding the finished packaging.
Particularly interesting was the composition of the materials. Did you know that cardboard packaging that comes into direct contact with food must consist of 100% fresh fibers? Since our packaging does not come into direct contact with our cream cheese, it consists of 80% fresh fibers and 20% recycled material – a sustainable approach!
After lunch together, we delved into the theory: an informative presentation gave us exciting insights into the upcoming EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) as well as test procedures for cardboard strength and methods for measuring air pockets using water displacement. In the afternoon, we returned to the Weserbergland region with many new impressions.
Many thanks to the Smurfit Westrock team for the informative and friendly exchange!
